Week Two - 'Butterfly'

Hi guys!

My work with the fantastic Butterfly Project and Staying Put continues! I just wanted to share this image that I captured last night at their art therapy workshop.

Often, the perception of victims of domestic abuse is that they are like birds with broken wings. That may be true of some of them. But for these women, who are in a healthier place, they are strong, they are vulnerable, they are friends, they are survivors. I am seeing that beautiful thing that lives within us all - empathy. They are stronger than their trauma, their tears and their sadness. They are emerging from their protective cocoons and transforming into butterflies before my eyes.

I look forward to sharing more images with you at the WOW Festival at Kala Sangam, launching on 4th November 2016.

'Now you understand

Just why my head’s not bowed.

I don’t shout or jump about

Or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing,

It ought to make you proud.

I say,

It’s in the click of my heels,

The bend of my hair,

the palm of my hand,

The need for my care.

’Cause I’m a woman

Phenomenally.

Phenomenal woman,

That’s me.'
